The
answers to questions like this are always subjective.
These are a few of the things we've come up with that we wouldn't want to have in
a nation. I've always thought that if we could decide what we don't want to have,
then we could work on that... find alot of common ground... and then the things you want
become much clearer. Got an "I Don't Want" ?
Take and look at these, and your own, and decide for yourself how we're doing.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where there are people so corrupt
that they would lose control and take over the country for some unimageinable reason.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation so focused on money that they
forget the values and heritage that made family the priority and integrity the norm.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where every icon of decency is
rightfully subject to criticism and disdain.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where a discussion of opposing
views could not be an exchange of ideas instead of adversial challenge.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where I must have weapons to defend
my home.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where cheating and lying were
acceptable techniques... as long as you don't get caught.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where people of religions could not
learn from each other's presence in their lives.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where race was a dempgraphic to be
sought, instead of people with real needs, feelings, dreams and desires.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation that goes to war over oil.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation that suppresses freedom of speech
and the press.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation with a leader who forgets that the
freedom that let them become President, is the same freedom we trust them to provide for
our families, our neighbors and friends.
I would never want to think that I live in a nation where representation was based on
wealth instead of citizens.
Got a few "I wouldn't wants" of your own? Then look
around your world, and see what grade you can give the world in relation to your desire
and expectations. Then be what it takes to be that world. Do
what it takes to make it that way.
