To Anne & Nancy;
There's someone in this household who says they went to high school with you. Funny, in
a way, I did too... at Soquel High.
First I really want to say to Anne, I am a fan. Your guitar work is incredible, your
voice is beautiful... recorded the PBS special... fantastic...
Nancy... this is a fun story.
First, when I was working at KFMI in Eureka, you guys were supposed to have come to
Humboldt County and premiered Crazy on You. I was so disappointed when you cancelled. I
bet I damaged more than 1 radio station's monitor speakers listening to that.:}
But years before, at Soquel High School... I was Patrick Dennis in "Mame".
The name of the girl/woman who played Mame was named Nancy Wilson. (How many Nancy
Wilsons are there?).
The night we were rehearsing the polka (which I already knew how to do because of a
dance my parents threw for my sister in the late 50's in Palo Alto... they told me if I
wanted dip and chips, I had to dance too. So, in my pajamas, I danced with them... tasted
good. Then I had to go to bed :} They taught me the Beer Barrel Polka).
Anyway... these Wilsons lived along the coast in Capitola - the exclusive area - and
they had this big fence around the place, covered with baby roses (my favorites). Nancy
was never there before this play, or after. She was beautiful, I might add. Looked alot
like you. I doubt it, but I still wonder. Open a new window, open a new door....
During that polka practice I did to Nancy what Chris Matthews did to Ellen Degeneres...
ask him about it, it was in the news. I was so embarrassed, I almost fell over and
stumbled off the stage... everyone said they had no idea why I was acting that way.
Nonetheless... working in record stores was always fun.
When I worked at Sequoia Stereo in Eureka, I met this guy named Henry at City 1 Stop in
L.A. who seemed to become everybody's favorite friend. He used to make sound effects like
helicopters and things... maybe he was trying to tell me something, given the chopper guys
outside all the time... this is one of those moments when I start connecting dots I didn't
know existed... cause the psyops guys make helicopter noises the exact same way to annoy
me... I've got a story like that about Bruce Wayne, the KHJ traffic reporter during
Eric Chase's afternoon drive show in L.A. in the weblog archive somewhere...
When I was in L.A., I wrote a story about Heart in the magazine Off Duty. What magazine
are you referring to? Playboy, by any chance? The guy down the road says he has an
original edition of it from 1953 in a safe somewhere.
Funny story, too, about the guy chasing you down the street and running into a
telephone pole (for the record, it wasn't me).
One time, Henry (the same guy who had the friend Bob Lippman with the photos of Billy
Preston) told me about this abum you two did that wasn't going to be released, and he
might be able to get me a copy. So I begged him. And it came in my next record shipment.
Good Old Henry!
I don't what the contractual dispute was with Mushroom Records. Maybe you'll have
reason to work that out. And, Lord knows I would never do anything to exascerbate a
situation of any kind :}, but the original Magazine album was truly great. I kept
listening to it and wondering what would have happened if ya'll had gotten together with
Janis Joplin.
Besides, people would want to hear these cuts that aren't on other albums. I know I
enjoy them. You
know you shook me....
I've been trying to think of which version of this song to use... I've got Kiki Dee,
Thelma Houston and the Pressure Cookers on Mobile Fidelity direct to disc... and a few
more... but I'm going to put this one up for all of you in the band, past and present.
And, I hate to say it, but I really agree with Shelley and Rolf.
1977 - Heart - Magazine - The unauthorized album - I've Got the Music In Me
Let's just say, I like it when people do cover songs and make it their own. And, let's
just say, I enjoy the additional lyrics at the beginning :}

PS They used to call me the Magic Man. I'll never go into the details on that one,
though, for some reason, people seem to know it all anyway. Sigh :}
