I believe there is a great deal that LinkTV offers and can offer.
Please understand, I make these suggestions and observation after spending more than 5
years researching and contemplating how things could be done... how a global transformaion
could be accomplished... in a way that could not be impeded by governments, would not be
breaking laws, would not be preaching to the choir, and would be providing truth and
guidance in a way that causes the healing I speak of in the Era of Reconciliation.
LinkTV has and continues to be on my mind in this endeavor. (Although I was a little
put off when you used "Reporting Without Borders")
What you provide most of all is 2 things: 1) The ability for people to see that there
is a vast world of peoples and beings and cultures that we know little about, but with
whom we have so much in common.
2) You provide historical persepective to American and International history that is
indispensable.
Additional Programming Suggestions:
1) Provide a news cast that is competitive with Cable News/Network nightly news. 1
Hour. Competitive in that it has the same kind of pacing and presentation without
distortion. Using my/the CNN model :}, there is a huge network of people out there doing
news... people would be willing to see lower quality video and technical presentation in
order to see more on the ground, citizen reports. I believe I could deliver that network
to you in less than a month, because it exists now. You know most of them.
Amy's great, by the way, she really is. She needs to upgrade the presentation, though,
to a more modern, magazine style program. There's nothing wrong with using modern
technology look and feel so long as it's not slick and sensational.
2) Play commercials instead of doing "auctions" and fund raising drives. I
understand what you are trying to do, but you could be allowing "green
companies" to advertise, do their businesses some good, do your budget some good, and
still use their infomercial style commercials to educate the public at large regarding new
products and ideas. Something the Family of Artists and Musicians would be doing if not
for the political activism. One of my favorite phrases in marketing is create demand. And
we really have to reach beyond "the choir". Forgive me my directness.
Don't be afraid to be competitive. Just stick to your principals and don't acquiesce to
momentary compromises you'll regret later.
Use a multi-tiered rate card. Focus on companies selling "healthier
products". Even small companies selling products of multi-nationals. The idea is to
build a better market for small businesses. Charge more for national companies,
reserve a specific amount of time for the locals and lower priced ads... down the road you
can give local cues to regionalize the ads... that is a FARM . If you don't have the ads
in the local slots, offer psa time for information dissemination... and use the
alternative news people for public affairs stuff. 1 min, 3-5 minute slots. That works them
into the new mainstream. Don't think of it as competition. Use it to build a just,
impartial empire... and then maintain your objectivity or you'll lose it.
3) PBS in Seattle used to run a show called ESP... that was actually a more diverse
program covering mysticism and inquiry.. very interesting anthropology as well. Check with
their archives, see if you can do a program like that... not focusing on an individual,
but a variety of spiritual guests allowed to speak in a very casual, natural way. That's a
great kind of show for Saturday and Sunday mornings. Might have been LA just prior to '80.
4) Have someone run an MTV broadcast for you instead of running so much foreign
music... I like the foreign stuff, but I want to hear lyrics. It's important,. especially
right now, and even more important if you understand my "goals" and the reasons
behind them. This, actually, could be be my role on the station... couple of hours a
night, playing audio and doing talk... there's no fairness doctrine anymore, (until after
I get elected and it is re-instated) I'll be doing it soon anyway, so why not make
it work for you? (and I don't think Viacom's going to make me any offers :}) Further,
there's a guy in SF I want to cut an album with anyway, so that would put me in the right
city for now.... You might have heard.. I work cheap :} What, 6 months to inauguration
day? Besides, I'd like to hang out with Hitchens for awhile. He cracks me up. Anyway, just
playin' around. There's some people who want some rain of Biblical proportions in Denver,
and since my last name is actually pronounced rain... :} Somehow, I think it's gonna take
a while for James Dobson to decide he likes me.
5) Keep up the good work.
Enjoy the tunes... tell me we don't share all that...
PSS: What do you think.. does the shape of the text look like - an angel or a liberty
bell? :}Kind of like Orion's Belt :} The media will not save anyone, the truth will. And
there's nothing wrong with advertising from honest business people selling good product.
If there was, then people should not contribute to tv businesses either, because there
really isn't any difference, if people have the integrity to not get caught up in a
business serving money, as opposed to money serving the intent of a business. Thanks alot
though. See ya.
