Dear Paul...
If I'd only known. My day has been filled with concern, sadness and joy at what I
see as a new dawn... I hope you and all the loves of yor life are well and secure.
I really did not realize things had gone so far... it seems like every moment, as I've
looked at materials and listened to music today, I keep thinking of the sequence of when
and whom I've named and saluted, and the turns in their lives, and I realize what's going
on and what's at stake. I really had not expected these things for anoth 10-15 years back
in 2001-2002.
I want you to know how special you are to me. I have a friend I'd love to get back
together with again and cut some tracks... I've called him my little brother I never
had... the Pizza Messiah :} incredibly talented guy who I call my Lennon to
McCartney, or is that McCartney and Lennon to... he's Ringo too... :}
I always loved all the tunes with the classical roots and those really unique bass
lines... sure learned a lot from you guys, still am. Amazing. I was going to go through my
incredibly long list of all your tunes in chronological order and then write waived next
to each one I refused to do :}
At one point in my life, this prudish guy who wrote practically nothing but little love
songs got a little embarassed because it was way too revealing. So, I went covert. And
that's exactly when you guys came out with Silly Love Songs, and it made it alright again.
Simple as that. And I Let 'Em In. It was hard. And then I got accused of using music to
attract women. That was that. Only did a couple times of playing in front of people after
that. I'd play, and then they'd sit there, no clapping or a single sound, so I'd say, want
to hear another one, and I'd go through the whole book of tunes I brought with me (cause I
never remember them) and I'd always leave wondering if they liked them or if it was so bad
they were afraid to insult me or hurt my feelings. :} After listening to the
recordings, there are a couple I can listen to without wincing. But everytime you took off
into the woods with an 8-track, I thought to myself, I'd like to do that someday :}
So, that's all I'm gonna say for now, because I blew off all the good fire works
(though the blue lotus flower fountain misfired) and I'm doing a little bit of the Let It
Be thing... seriously. Mostly I wanted to say thank you, and I love you, and I love
you all (and I loved you in Berkeley, and would have waited in line forever to see you and
Linda, and one of my other favorite groups, the Average White Band - Got the Love)... Got
a few tunes for you that I did just before and after Abbey Road... seriously... :} Don't
you hushabye sweet darlin'... sweet memories.
Take care, and thank you for the gift you gave me, and what you've given us all. It has
not been unnoticed or unappreciated.
Put Her There.
- Chuck
I'm catching Ringo on CNN Monday Night :} Say hi to Tony For Me.
